Love For Sale

Grappelli took this piece merely as an improvisation engine. He bows it lightly through the phrases in New Orleans effortlessly making you think that it is about young love. And yes it is, young love for sale in brothel, retold in dark vivid image by Billie Holiday, a total contrast that keeps it real.

With Martin Taylor, Grappelli's rosy touch makes it one of my favorite performances of his late come back. The quartet came together tightly and relaxed, spiritually attached to Hot Club de France but musically departed.

Oscar Peterson laid his noodle at all possible register for Billie to phrase. Eventhough Oscar sounds working hard to get it there, they actually knit really well. I always think Teddy Wilson creates better magic for Billie, but this time around Oscar clicked. Someone showcase his artwork using this song here in YouTube.
